New Mexico Immigrant Law Center

For the last decade, the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center has worked to provide legal assistance and resources to build off of the resilience and power of our immigrant communities across our state. Our mission is to advance justice and equity by empowering low-income immigrant communities through collaborative legal services, advocacy, and education.

In a time when our immigrant communities are being disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, NMILC is working to provide holistic assistance and advocacy that go beyond legal assistance and representation; we bring a holistic, client-centered approach to meet our client’s needs.

Immigrants in New Mexico and the US have been devastated by separation due to deportation, violence, poverty, criminalization, and historical marginalization. NMILC is a social justice organization connecting with strategic community partners to ensure our clients receive holistic support.

Mary Ann Romero & Associates

A lawyer can have the best education and resources, but if he or she lacks passion, it will become very apparent to not just their clients, but to judges and the opposing parties. This lack of interest can be detrimental to case results. At Mary Ann Romero & Associates, we believe passion is everything.

Our very own founding attorney, Mary Ann Romero, has a passion for immigration law that dates back to her own experiences. As the primary English speaker in her family, Mary Ann was the one to translate and fill out forms for school, the bank, and health care on a daily basis. Growing up in a border town between El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico taught her about the unique needs of immigrants in the United States.

This early exposure to immigration issues instilled in her the belief that all individuals, regardless of their race or social class, have the right to receive benefits and enjoy freedom. For more than 20 years, our firm has strived to funnel this unwavering passion into each and every one of our cases, with tremendous results.

When it comes to our clients, we do not treat them like just another immigration case. We treat all of our clients with the compassion and respect they deserve. Immigration cases have serious implications that can tear families apart and destroy dreams and goals. Don’t let that happen to you! Fight for your dreams and your right to a better life.

If you are currently facing a delicate and time-sensitive immigration matter, please do not hesitate to contact our firm as soon as possible. We can review your case and explain the various legal options available to you. Immigration laws are constantly changing and being modified, but with our firm by your side, you will never have to worry about filling out the right paperwork. We are fluent in Spanish and provide affordable consultations directly with Mary Ann Romero in either English or Spanish.

Hendricks Law

Each year, no more than 7% of green cards through employment can be awarded to each country of origin. This limit has created some very long waiting lists, especially in China, India, and the Philippines. The first step in any immigration process in New Mexico is to consult an experienced immigration attorney.

In order to apply for an employment based green card, the immigrant’s employer must file an Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker. If there is not a waiting list for that country, the immigrant can file an Application to Register Permanent Residence right away. An immigration attorney should assist with this process in New Mexico. In order to qualify for an employment based green card, an immigrant must fall into an approved category:

  • Extraordinary ability in the sciences, art, business, education, or athletics
  • International recognition for outstanding achievements as a either a professor or a researcher
  • Multinational executive/manager
  • Member of a profession requiring an advanced degree
  • Person whose employment would greatly benefit the US
  • Holder of a US bachelor’s degree for a job that requires one
  • A skilled worker with two years of job experience/training

An L1AQ visa is a non-immigrant work visa, designed to allow foreign managers of international companies to move to their company’s US office. The L1A visa is valid for a three-year period before it needs an extension. You may file for an adjustment of status with this visa for US permanent residency and obtain a green card in New Mexico with the help of an immigration attorney. Anyone who holds a valid L1A visa may exit and enter the US freely. Their spouses may even work in the US and their children are able to attend US schools.

The H1-B Status Visa for Specialty Occupants is a non-immigrant visa, which allows US companies to employ qualified workers in certain specialized fields. A US bachelor’s degree or higher is required. US immigration law limits The H1-B Status Visas for Specialty Occupants to only 85,000 per year.

Eitzen Immigration Law

Immigration law never stops changing, so neither do I. Staying up to date on the latest developments in immigration law enables me to aggressively represent you. I use the technology to make processes efficient without sacrificing quality. My clients have access to their own portal where they can check on the status of their case whenever it is convenient for them.

I exclusively practice immigration law and am focused on providing the highest quality in legal representation. I believe that the initial consultation should not be the only time you meet with your lawyer. It is a particularly challenging time to seek immigration benefits. It is worth investing in the best representation.

I truly care about my clients, and their best interest is always my top priority. I believe you have the right to understand the strategy in your case, and we work together to achieve the best result for you and your family. I provide referrals to nonprofit organizations when it is appropriate.

Since 2005, I have exclusively practiced immigration law. I have spent most of my career serving the community at non-profit organizations, including as the Legal Director at New Mexico Immigrant Law Center. Before founding Eitzen Immigration Law, I represented diverse clients at one of the leading immigration law firms in New Mexico. I have extensive experience before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the immigration courts, and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
